Autumn Term 2021 Year 1
Welcome back to Year 1. We are looking forward to a fun and exciting year of learning.
English
This term we will be looking at the texts Jack and the beanstalk, The Little Red Hen, The Tiny Seed, Tyrannosaurus Drip, Dear Dinosaur and a variety of non-fiction dinosaur and animal books. We will also be using the film of The Good Dinosaur to support our work in English. Children will continue with daily phonic sessions to develop their reading and writing skills. We are now using sounds write for phonics and reading so the books that come home will be slightly different.
Maths
In Maths we will be learning about numbers to 10 and 20 including addition and subtraction and shape.
Topic
We will be learning about plants and animals, including identifying plants and trees and their parts. We will be finding out lots about dinosaurs and animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. We will also be finding out about harvest and dinosaurs as part of our History. In Geography we will be learning about the weather and different parts of the world, including continents and oceans.
PE
We will be using Queniborough pool to provide swimming lessons on a Monday. The children will a Thursday morning. This maybe outside when the weather permits. Please send children in their PE kits on PE days.
Homework
Children will continue to bring home a book each week, which will be changed in the same day each week. This book will be based on the phonics we are learning in class. They will also bring home a picture book. We may listen to them read on different days so please send book bags in every day. During this half term, we will be introducing Spelling Shed, Maths with Parents and Numbots on Google Classroom. We will put a number of resources on Google Classroom that may be useful at home. They may sometimes bring home words to learn to read and spell and sometimes a worksheet that needs to be returned to school.
